Thomas received his Master of Arts in Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2011, born in Germany and raised in Hong Kong.

As an interdisciplinary artist, his works mostly start with soaking himself in moments and feeling from his personal history, then projects it to a discussion on specific social values, system, or phenomenon.

Thomas refused to focus on a single media nor concept, for how world is constructed with different sectors by contradicting pillars, is like how a person with contradicting thoughts and spirits inside, Thomas works reveal different faces and atmospheres when context changes. Humorous or poetic, vigorous or calm, intellectual or emotional. Thus, the works ranged over painting, sound, video, performance, interactive art project etc.

Every generation has its own crisis, the contemporary, the post-truth era brings us new challenge, Thomas wishes himself to witness this era through Art, to express, digest, explore and response, for human is a special kind of being, mixed the intellectual and emotional together, Art is such a sector embrace this mixing of humanity.



袁永賢的創作由生活軼事出發,延伸處及至心靈、行為或社會現象等等。

創作對他來說不是生存的必需。卻是沉澱生活經驗、思考領略和自我療癒的好途徑。因為過程中要把情感認清和拿揑準確,又要在邏輯上處理事情的不同向度,所以創作是情感和理性並列,可以較全面的讓他真正進入生活。讓人免得於城市中,太容易陷入文字邏輯的直接,或純粹感官性的享受。

創作如果真的是一種表達和討論,就應該隨處境帶有不同味道。要安慰時溫柔、要說笑時嬉皮、憤怒時強烈。所以他的創作媒介和風格有好幾面。只是有時在想這種創作模式會否讓他在藝術圈子裏難以被認出來,有礙發展。

他希望藝術可以帶他變得更為坦然、正直、誠實、開放、愉快。也要踏實一點,所以如果可以從中找到個錢用以生活也很好。假若藝術真的不是太神聖和深不可測,他希望自己不要把藝術神化,把她放回一個生活中該有的位置就好。也可能是換過來,以藝術來提醒自己,不要把生活給矮化。
